Diamond shapes and carat sizes
We offer round, oval, emerald, cushion, pear and marquise center stones, plus other shapes on request. A diamond's exact face-up size depends on how it's cut, which is why published size charts vary somewhat by shape (elongated shapes like oval and pear vary more than round). The ranges below reflect that spread for a well-cut stone at 1 carat; they're not a guarantee for any specific stone.
- Round: about 6.3 to 6.5mm across.
- Oval: about 7.0 to 7.9mm long by 5.0 to 5.7mm wide.
- Emerald: about 6.9 to 7.0mm long by 4.8 to 5.0mm wide.
- Cushion: about 5.5 to 6.0mm across, depending on how square or elongated the cut is.
- Pear: about 7.0 to 8.4mm long by 5.0 to 5.7mm wide.
How carat relates to size
Carat measures a diamond's weight, not its size, so two diamonds of the same carat weight can look different sizes depending on their cut and proportions. As carat weight goes up, the visible diameter grows more slowly than the weight does, since the stone also gets deeper as it gets wider. We offer center stones at 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 carats.
Shape and carat availability varies by style, and we confirm your exact stone's measurements before we invoice. See our setting style guide and our lab-grown vs natural diamonds guide, or browse ring styles to see shapes on real settings.
